Letter: Not enough people take rules of road seriously

Editor:

Thank you for your Aug. 18 editorial concerning regular reminders about traffic safety and the perils of speeding, distracted, and impaired driving (“Pay attention to the rules of the road”).

I can only imagine a world where everyone just simply didn’t speed at any time or anywhere. Fewer injuries and deaths would be the result. Too many of us are survivors of losing loved ones at the hands of someone who did not have the common sense to follow the rules of the road.

The editorial notes that “through the first half of 2022 crashes at emergency response scenes cost 32 workers their lives” That’s 32 people who did not go home that day to their family due to the carelessness and lack of responsibility of individuals who don’t care about the safety of others.

Just like we should all respect and obey the rule of law, we should also respect and obey the rules of the road.
