Letter: Pennsylvania educators salute Latino community

Editor:

Pennsylvania State Education Association members join the nation to celebrate the contributions of Americans of Latino heritage from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15. Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates the independence of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua (Sept. 15, 1821), Mexico (Sept. 16, 1810), and Chile (Sept. 18, 1810).

Educators and support professionals in Pennsylvania are proud to honor the historical and cultural impacts of these communities. One of the best ways to do that is to remind people about Latino cultures’ influence on society today.

I invite you to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month. Our public schools are as diverse as our communities, and we are privileged to celebrate, nurture and educate every student who learns in them. We are proud to commemorate the diversity Latino people bring to Pennsylvania and the nation, not just this month, but all year round.

President, Pennsylvania State Education Association
