Letter: Pennsylvania needs law to stop carpetbaggers

Editor:

Isn’t it time for a law regarding who can run for office in Pennsylvania? There are laws concerning age eligibility. I believe we need one concerning residency as well.

The Legislature should enact a law requiring a candidate to reside in Pennsylvania for five years before being able to run for office in our state. That means actually living here, not just owning a house.

Such a measure would rule out the possibility of carpetbaggers telling us what we need and how they’ll help us when they haven’t lived here long enough to really know our needs.

A friend pointed out that Hillary Clinton did the same thing in New York that Dr. Mehmet Oz did in Pennsylvania’s Senate race this year. Two wrongs don’t make a right. That is New York’s problem to fix.

I intend to contact my legislators to get them to address this problem. Will others do the same?
