Reading officials should be ashamed of themselves (“City forced to take action on Bernhart Dam,” Reading Eagle, Aug. 31). Getting rid of the Bernhart Dam will be a sickening act.
I am surprised these people constantly get reelected. I find the incompetence laughable sometimes.
It’s always something when it comes to the dam. In 2018 the city apparently had to act right away, but nothing happened. Late 2019 comes and again it’s reported that the city needs to act. Nothing again.
They have no clue what is going on. They made no plan with the time they had. They had zero intentions of saving the dam. They could have looked for another source of funds for repairs. The procrastination by our elected officials is inexcusable.
When the dam is gone, the community will suffer. Not just the people in the community but the whole ecosystem that is there. Have you ever seen a silent swan? Well a family of eight lives there now.
It’s all about the money these days, or maybe I am just too young to notice it has always been this way.
In closing, I ask the community of Reading to fight this removal as I did since they started chatting about it. Vote out these officials. Maybe I’ll just run against one of them.
Do not be surprised if the people who live near the dam put up their houses for sale. They are about to lose a lot of value when they remove the dam.
