Letter: Reading doesn’t have much to celebrate

This is in response to “We’re standing tall” (Reading Eagle, July 15). While monetarily, the city of Reading may be out of distress, has anyone walked down Penn Street, or Sixth Street, or any other street in the city lately?

Just because the city is getting a windfall of money from the federal government and is in better fiscal shape doesn’t mean people here do, or should, have any reason to celebrate, contrary to what acting state Community and Economic Development Secretary Neil Weaver suggested. Reading is a place still very much in distress.
