“Republican leaders should heed the will of the voters” (Reading Eagle, July 29), rails against the nine Republicans who have turned against Doug Mastriano as candidate for the governor of Pennsylvania. The letter argues that it is their duty as party leaders to honor the will of the voters.
How ironic this stance is given that former President Donald Trump, the top GOP leader, has no interest whatsoever in honoring the will of the voters. Instead of accepting the outcome of the 2020 presidential election, which he lost, he chose to cling unlawfully to power and block the peaceful transition of power, which is the hallmark of our democracy.
Pro-Trump Republicans seem to have blinders on when it comes to these facts. Perhaps a quote from Luke 6:41 is in order here: “Why do you see the speck in your neighbor’s eye, but do not notice the log in your own eye.”
