State lawmakers have a historic opportunity to invest in our health and welfare by using American Rescue Plan funds to renovate state parks and forests.
State parks and forests offer us a place to rejuvenate, recreate and recharge our relationships. Millions sought refuge at a state park or forest during the first two years of the COVID-19 pandemic. Even more than usual, we needed the open spaces for physical and mental health as well as recreation. The wear and tear caused by a record number of visitors left our parks and forests in desperate need of renovations.
As lawmakers discuss the state budget, I urge them to use a portion of American Rescue Plan funds to repair roads, bridges, restrooms, cabins and visitors centers. This would benefit millions of Pennsylvania and protect the environment.
Our state parks and forests took care of us during the pandemic. Now it is time for us to take care of them. We need these parks and forests for present and future generations to enjoy. As a volunteer with the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, I urge readers to help me and other Pennsylvanians take care of the outdoors.
