Letter: Why we must keep Trump from returning to office

Editor:

The question has been asked: Who wouldn’t want Donald Trump back again? I definitely would not, and here’s why:

He has spoken in favor of suspending the U.S. Constitution, even though he would have no legal authority to do so.

Trump and many other Republicans have signed on to Project 2025, a blueprint for governance created by the Heritage Foundation and other conservative think tanks. This proposal is based on “unitary executive theory,” which would place currently independent federal agencies and all Cabinet departments under the president’s direct control, without congressional oversight. He would be given the authority to fire any federal employee at any level. Project 2025 recommends firing up to 50,000 federal workers to be replaced by MAGA sycophants. This would dismantle our system of checks and balances and essentially make the president a dictator.

Trump proposes to repeal clean-energy measures and ramp up the production of fossil fuels, further polluting the environment and worsening climate change. He also proposes a 10% tariff on all foreign goods, which would boost inflation and create product shortages.

He intends to pardon Jan. 6, 2021, defendants, even though they were duly tried and convicted of their crimes. This makes a mockery of the rule of law.

And what about the 91 charges for which Trump has been criminally indicted, which have yet to be decided in court?

Our choice in 2024 is Trump or democracy. Take the time to fully inform yourself before voting.
