Letter: Working together to honor community military heroes

Editor:

On Feb. 5, I watched two TV programs about the Boston Red Sox. One was about the “Impossible Dream” season of 1967 and the other about the great pitcher Dennis Eckersley. I knew it would be a Robert Frost night because I now had “miles to go before I sleep.” I was thinking about that and recent events in Topton.

A Brandywine Heights school club and Topton borough started a program to put our military heroes’ pictures on utility poles.

I served in the Army Reserve from 1965 to 1971, and like many others did not feel I was worthy of such an honor. My feelings changed when I realized it would help honor others as well. I see many real heroes at our museum and on Veterans Day at Brandywine Middle School.

The Topton borough crew was given the job of putting up the posters and is doing great work. There is some concern about safety as people driving try to read the posters and names. Please drive safely. We do have a walking tour guide of Topton from our 1976 centennial celebration available at the borough museum.

Thank you to the Brandywine Heights School District and Topton borough for working together to honor our military heroes.
