Local Award-Winning Documentary to Return to Reading Friday

From Reading Film Office

The GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, in collaboration with the Reading Film Office, is honored to present a special one-night-only screening of Finding Jenn’s Voice, an award-winning documentary by esteemed local filmmaker and social worker Tracy Schott, MSW, MS, on Friday, March 28, from 7-9 p.m., at the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts’ Boscov Theater. This event commemorates the 10-year anniversary of the film’s impactful release and celebrates Tracy Schott’s significant contributions to the local film community and her advocacy for survivors of domestic violence.

Produced in the Greater Reading area, Finding Jenn’s Voice has been recognized for its courageous exploration of intimate partner homicide. The documentary was inspired by the tragic 2011 murder of 27-year-old Jennifer Snyder, who was killed by her boyfriend upon discovering she was pregnant. The film delves into the alarming statistic that homicide is a leading cause of death during pregnancy, offering insights through interviews with survivors, experts, law enforcement, and those who knew Jenn. It sheds light on the warning signs of abusive relationships and critiques the media’s portrayal of domestic violence.

Following the screening, attendees are invited to participate in an exclusive Q&A session with filmmaker Tracy Schott, Meghan Barrell, Co-Director of Community Programs and Education at Safe Berks, and survivor Lisa Dowers. Together, they will offer a deeper understanding of the film’s creation, its ongoing relevance, and the power of storytelling in driving social change.

Tracy Schott’s background as a social worker deeply informed her approach to this documentary. Her transition from social work to filmmaking provides a unique perspective that enriches the film’s narrative, providing professional insight and compassionate storytelling.

“Tracy has been an incredible force in elevating independent film in our region,” said Cammie Harris, Executive Director of the Reading Film Office. “This film remains as important today as it was 10 years ago, and we’re honored to celebrate this milestone with her and our community.”
