Local Storytellers: Filmmaker Santo Marabella

from Reading Film Office

The ReadingFilm Office is thrilled to share that Santo D. Marabella, a significant figure in our community’s creative landscape, is producing a deeply personal and compelling documentary. Titled Il Mio Posto a Tavola (My Place at the Table), the film chronicles Santo’s adoption journey from Italy in 1961 and delves into the universal human quest for belonging.

Santo Marabella co-founded and executive produced This is Reading by Pulitzer Prize winner Lynn Nottage, co-founded and executive produced ReadingFilmFEST (2015-2017), and served as Film Commissioner and co-founder of ReadingFilm (2006-2018). His successful creative career as an author, playwright, and filmmaker brings extensive experience and a unique perspective to this project. Il Mio Posto a Tavola promises to weave Santo’s personal story into a broader narrative that highlights the barriers—both internal and external—that can prevent anyone, adoptees and non-adoptees alike, from finding their “place at the table.”

Leading the production team is Tracy Schott, owner of Schott Productions. Tracy co-founded ReadingFilmFEST with Marabella and served as its Creative Director. She was also the past board president of the Reading Film Office (2021-2023) and continues to provide invaluable experience and support to our office as a current board member. Tracy has shared that she and her team will film part of Il Mio Posto a Tavola in Italy this September. Joining Santo on this journey will be members of his Italian family and his American “family,” who will accompany him to capture this exploration of identity and belonging.
