Luis Severino was scratched from Thursday’s start with an illness. While he was placed on the COVID injury list before the game, to allow the Yankees to make a roster move, Severino tested negative on multiple tests for the coronavirus.
“I haven’t seen him yet. But he’s back there and I understand it went pretty well and he’s gonna go with us to Toronto,” Yankees manager Aaron Boone said.
Severino, who had a fever and the chills Wednesday night, is not scheduled to start this weekend in Toronto. He was scratched hours before Thursday night’s series finale against the Rays at the Stadium. Clarke Schmidt stepped in and the bullpen gave the Yankees a 2-1 win to sweep the series.
Severino would be expected to start against the Rays next week at Tropicana Field.
WALKING IT OFF
Anthony Rizzo hit his 16th home run to walk off the Yankees’ 2-1 win over the Rays Thursday. It was his ninth career walk-off plate appearance, his eighth career walk-off hit and fifth career walk-off home run.
“He’s just a rock. I say he plays the game within the game so well,” Boone said. ” And he just does as good as anyone that I’ve seen, just those little things within a game that help you win. Obviously, he did it again tonight.”
