Matt Swarmer, Gov. Mifflin and Kutztown University product, to make major league debut with Cubs

Pitcher Matt Swarmer, a Gov. Mifflin and Kutztown University product, will make his major league debut today for the Chicago Cubs against the Milwaukee Brewers when he starts the first game of a doubleheader, according to a report in the Chicago Tribune.

Swarmer, a 28-year-old right-hander, will have his contract purchased from Triple-A Iowa.

He is 3-1 with a 2.08 ERA in nine games, five of them starts, for Iowa. He has allowed 23 hits, walked 14 and struck out 42 in 39 innings.

Swarmer was drafted by the Cubs in the 19th round of the 2016 draft.

Lifetime in the minors, he is 32-34 with three saves and 4.40 ERA in 116 games, 91 of them starts.

He has spent all of the 2019 season in Triple-A. After not playing in the minors in 2020 due to the pandemic, Swarmer appeared in 19 games last season for Iowa and five for Double-A Tennessee.
