On Thursday, Sept. 5, Miller-Keystone Blood Center (MKBC) will be hosting the second half of a very special appreciation series of events to honor individuals and organizations in our community that support the Blood Center’s lifesaving mission.

“We are very excited to be hosting the second of our Appreciation Series events in Reading on Sept. 5,” said Rami Nemeh, Chief Operating Officer, MKBC. “That afternoon, we will be honoring many of the blood donors, financial supporters, and volunteers who have played a vital role in the work that we do.”

The first event in MKBC’s Appreciation Series took place in May 2024, when the Blood Center acknowledged its regional high school/college blood drive sponsors and recognized its corporate/foundation support. Also announced and honored that day were MKBC’s 2023 Local Leader Award recipients – those organizations that sponsored blood drives and collected a minimum of 200 lifesaving blood donations in 2023. Included among the 2023 MKBC Local Leader Award recipients are Daniel Boone High School, East Penn Manufacturing, Fleetwood High School, Governor Mifflin High School, Kempton Excavating, Reading Hospital, and St. Peter’s United Church of Christ.

“Miller-Keystone Blood Center is extremely grateful for our blood donors, blood drive sponsors, and financial contributors,” said Lina Barbieri, Chief Financial Officer, MKBC. “Every single one of them, as well as our volunteers and our staff, are critically important to the operations of our organization. Without the support and contributions of these individuals and organizations, we would not be able to provide the lifesaving blood products and transfusion services that our communities depend on.”

Miller-Keystone Blood Center currently provides blood products and services to more than 25 hospitals in our region, including Reading Hospital and the Tower Health Network, and also serves as a resource to other healthcare facilities during emergencies.

“For more than 50 years, MKBC has had the privilege of serving over three million residents across an 18-county radius, including Berks County and its neighboring communities,” Mr. Nemeh added.

Premier sponsors of the Blood Center’s 2024 Appreciation Series include East Penn Manufacturing, Highmark, Reading Hospital, and the St. Luke’s University Health Network. A full list of event sponsors, as well as additional event details, can be found on MKBC’s website at GIVEaPINT.org/programs/mkbc-appreciation-series.
