NFL moves upcoming Dolphins’ road game to prime time

The Miami Dolphins-Los Angeles Chargers game on Dec. 11 has been flexed to an 8:20 p.m. kickoff, the NFL announced Tuesday night. The game, a part of the league’s “flexible” scheduling, will be televised on NBC’s “Sunday Night Football”.

As the Dolphins’ success and popularity grows, they become more preferable to have their games moved, or flexed into prime-time national television slots. It could happen again for the Buffalo game.

The Week 14 matchup at the Chargers is the second of the Dolphins’ three-game road trip that begins at 4:05 p.m. Sunday at the San Francisco 49ers. Then comes the Chargers game. The Dolphins are staying in California during the week.

The road swing concludes with a game at Buffalo that could be played either Dec. 17 (Saturday) or Dec. 18 (Sunday) depending on what the NFL deems to be the most advantageous time slot according to its flex scheduling.

Five games are eligible for flex scheduling that week. Along with Dolphins-Bills is the Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints, Baltimore Ravens at Cleveland Browns, the New York Giants at Washington Commanders and Indianapolis Colts at Minnesota Vikings.

The NFL will announce its schedule for that week around this time next week.

If the Dolphins (8-3) play at Buffalo on Saturday they’d face a short week after returning home from the Chargers game and a week on the West Coast, a fairly daunting task.
