Oley Valley grad Sophia Gladieux named a first-team field hockey All-American at Penn State

Oley Valley grad Sophia Gladieux, a sophomore at Penn State, has been named a first-team All-American in Division I by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association, it was announced Tuesday.

In Division II, Alyssa Donato of Kutztown University made the first team. Fellow Golden Bears Rachel Dusman and Leigh Roselli made the second team.

In Division III, Twin Valley grad Hannah Spiri, a senior at Dickinson, made the second team.

Gladieux, a forward, earned All-American honors for the second straight season. She was a second-team selection last season. She had 18 goals and two assists for a team-best 38 points this season.

She also has been named the NFHCA Mideast Region Player of the Year, to the NFHCA All-Region first team, to the All-Big Ten first team and to the Big Ten All-Tournament team.

The Nittany Lions (14-6) earned a berth in the NCAA Tournament.

Donato, a graduate student and midfielder from Cedarville, N.J., led Kutztown in goals (13) and points (32) in 18 games, and tied for the team lead in game-winning goals (three). She also was a first-team All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference pick.

Dusman, a senior forward/midfielder from Chambersburg, had 11 goals and four assists in 18 games this season, along with three game-winning goals. A second-team All-PSAC pick, Dusman is expected to return next season to use the extra year of eligibility granted by the NCAA due to COVID-19.

Roselli, a graduate student and defender from Romansville, earned All-American honors for the second time. She was also a second-team pick in 2019. She helped KU register six shutouts in 18 games this season. The Golden Bears gave up two goals or less in 15 of their games. She was a second-team All-PSAC pick this season.

Kutztown finished 11-7.

Spiri, a defender, led Dickinson in goals (six) and points (15). She also had three assists and made four defensive saves. She also was named the Centennial Conference Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-Region team by the NFHCA for the Devils (9-10).
