Oley Valley superintendent leaving the school district

The Oley Valley School District is losing its top administrator.

Dr. Gina Finnerty has announced she is leaving her post as superintendent to take a job in the Quakertown School District in Bucks County. Her last day with the district will be May 27.

The Quakertown School Board on March 27 hired Finnerty to be the director of human resources. She will begin that job on June 1 at a salary of $160,000.

Finnerty said deciding to make the change was not something she came to easily.

“After careful consideration, I have decided to pursue a professional opportunity that aligns with my career goals and is closer to home,” she said. “This decision did not come lightly, as my time with the Oley Valley students, staff and community has been incredibly rewarding and meaningful.”

Finnerty expressed gratitude for the support and collaboration she has received from the school board, district families and the community.

“I am committed to ensuring a smooth transition and will support the district in any way possible during this period,” she said.

School board representatives could not immediately be reached for comment about Finnerty’s impending departure.

Finnerty began her tenure as superintendent in April 2023, replacing the retiring Dr. Tracy Shank. Prior to that she served as principal of Oley Valley High School, a post she took on at the start of the 2019-20 school year.
