Openings and special event movies in Berks County starting today

Here are the openings and special event movies for the week beginning Jan. 28:

“Licorice Pizza” opens Friday, January 28, at Fox Berkshire, 800 Berkshire Blvd., Wyomissing

“Licorice Pizza” is the story of Alana Kane and Gary Valentine growing up, running around and falling in love in the San Fernando Valley, 1973. Written and Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, the film tracks the treacherous navigation of first love.  Stars Alana Haim, Cooper Hoffman, Sean Penn, Tom Waits, Bradley Cooper.

“Ghostbuster: Afterlife” is back Friday, January 28, at Fox Berkshire, 800 Berkshire Blvd., Wyomissing

Paul Rudd stars in the the nostalgia-filled next chapter in the original Ghostbusters universe, as a single mom and her two kids discover their connection to the original Ghostbusters and the secret legacy their grandfather left behind.

“The Met Opera: Rigoletto” plays live Saturday, January 29 and encores Wednesday, February 2, at Fox Berkshire, 800 Berkshire Blvd., Wyomissing

The Met rings in the new year a bold new take on Verdi’s timeless tragedy directed by Bartlett Sher. The Tony Award­–winning director resets the opera’s action in 1920s Europe, with Art Deco sets by Michael Yeargan and elegant costumes by Catherine Zuber. Baritone Quinn Kelsey, a commanding artist at the height of his powers, brings his searing portrayal of the title role to the Met for the first time.

“The Tragedy of Macbeth” continues on Friday, January 28, at Goggleworks, 201 Washington St., Reading

An original, striking reimagining of the classic Shakespearean tale directed by Joel Coen, portrayed in sumptuous black-and-white cinematography, The Tragedy of Macbeth finds the titular general and his loyal wife (Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand) older and warier, desperately striving against a merciless ticking clock as they attempt to seize upon a final opportunity for power.
