Penn State football team’s report card vs. Ohio State

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Grading the Penn State football team on its 38-14 loss to Ohio State Saturday at Ohio Stadium:

Quarterbacks

C: Ethan Grunkemeyer again showed pocket presence in a difficult environment, made some nice throws and missed a few.

Running backs

C: Kaytron Allen and Nick Singleton accounted for 132 of Penn State’s 200 total yards and both of its touchdowns.

Receivers

D: Freshman Koby Howard was the only wide receiver to make a catch longer than 18 yards, and Khalil Dinkins had the only two catches by the tight ends.

Offensive linemen

D: Allen and Singleton averaged less than 3.5 yards per carry, and Grunkemeyer was sacked four times.

Defensive linemen

D: Ohio State rushed for 164 yards and quarterback Julian Sayin often had an eternity to throw the ball downfield without being sacked.

Linebackers

C: Amare Campbell had a team-high eight tackles and freshman Alex Tatsch had two stops in limited action.

Defensive backs

F: Jeremiah Smith and Carnell Tate burned the secondary for 11 catches, 247 yards and three touchdowns.

Special teams

B: Gabe Nwosu averaged 49.8 yards on six punts and Ryan Barker made both of his extra points.

Coaches

D: Penn State failed on three keys: outrushing Ohio State, throwing the ball downfield and preventing Buckeyes receivers from getting behind the secondary.
