Phillies leave broadcast booth largely intact

The Phillies are essentially sticking with what they have when it comes to the broadcast booth.

The club has reached multi-year agreements with television play-by-play man Tom McCarthy and radio narrator Scott Franzke.

McCarthy has been with the franchise for 21 years over two stints, including a play-by-play presence that he’s had since 2009. Franzke, once the kid in the Phillies’ radio booth, will be entering his 18th season there. He turns 51 on March 6.

“With Tom and Scott, it’s the familiarity of their voices, their extensive knowledge of the Phillies and their passion for the game that made these extensions an easy decision,” Phillies Executive Vice President David Buck said. “We look forward to each of them bringing our fans along for this exciting journey through the 2023 season and beyond.”

McCarthy, 54, started with the Phils and then worked two years in New York broadcasting Mets games. He’s married and the father of four, including son Patrick, 26, just hired by the Mets to do pre- and post-game shows.

Former Phillies shortstop Kevin Stocker’s stock as an announcer has risen, too. He w will serve as the club’s radio color analyst for road games and select home games not called by Larry Andersen, the long-time colorful complainer who will continue to call most home games in 2023, the club said. He shared booth time last year with fellow team alums Michael Bourn, Chad Durbin and Erik Kratz.

“I’m very grateful to the Philadelphia Phillies for my expanded role in the broadcast booth and the opportunity to work alongside a group of broadcasters who are the best in the business,” Stocker said. “They love to bring Phillies baseball to the fans, and I am truly honored to be a part of it.”

Veteran Gregg Murphy will host pre-game and post-game radio shows for home and away games.
