From Reading Public Museum
Republic Services, Inc. and the Republic Services Charitable Foundation announced on Tuesday, April 8, the 2025 recipients of the grants through the Foundation’s National Neighborhood Promise® (NNP) Program. The Reading Public Museum was one of only 14 nonprofit recipients in all of North America. The NNP program works to revitalize communities and enhance the quality of life of residents through volunteer projects, monetary donations, and in-kind services.
“We are committed to engaging with and investing in the communities we serve,” said Elena Goodhall, director of Community Investment for Republic Services. “Our local teams work closely with our nonprofit partners on critical initiatives and projects that help foster sustainable neighborhoods.”
The Reading Public Museum was awarded $125,000 for the project Investing in Reading, PA: Increasing Digital Accessibility at The Reading Public Museum. The funding from the NNP program will support the installation of free Wi-Fi throughout the public spaces of The Museum building. Museum visitors, school students, and educators will benefit from an increased ability to learn while at The Museum, having access to online resources and internet searches. Digital access has become an important aspect of education and entertainment in our world, especially for the younger generations. Inquisitive students can search for an artist on the internet while examining one of their paintings or read online about Ancient Egyptian mummification practices while standing next to The Museum’s mummy, Nefrina. The educational possibilities are endless.
“Having Wi-Fi throughout The Museum has long been a dream at RPM. We are so grateful for the support from the Republic Services Foundation to make this dream a reality,” said Geoffrey K. Fleming, Executive Director and CEO of the Reading Public Museum. “Having stable Wi-Fi will not only allow teachers, students, and visitors greater access to everything we have to offer, it will also let our educators utilize technology in a way that has never been possible before.”
Overall, this project will enrich the experiences of our community members, increasing The Museum’s educational reach and cementing the campus as an important communal space. This project will open the doors of RPM even wider to guests of all ages, education levels, financial situations, identities, abilities, and nationalities.
