Rylee Derr scores 24 points as Kutztown women rally past Slippery Rock

Rylee Derr scored 16 of her 24 points in the third quarter Saturday when Kutztown took command on its way to a 62-47 victory at Slippery Rock in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women’s basketball game.

Derr was in the middle of an unusual sequence late in the third quarter when the Golden Bears (2-1, 9-3) scored seven points in two seconds. She drove for a layup and made a free throw to convert a three-point play. The Rockets (1-2, 5-3) were called for a technical foul, and Zara Zerman drained two free throws.

Then Zerman found Derr for a layup as time expired, capping a 27-4 third quarter for Kutztown.

Casey Remolde had 13 points, six rebounds and four blocked shots for the Bears, who overcame a 32-25 halftime deficit. Naia Pulliam had 10 points.

Albright 65, Moravian 48: At Bollman Center, Gabby Boggs had 20 points and 11 rebounds as the Lions (7-3) beat the Greyhounds (2-7) in a non-conference game for their fourth straight win.

Brady Wassel had 10 points and 15 rebounds for Albright for her third straight double-double, Berks Catholic grad Abby Gaffney had 14 points, six rebounds and six assists and Amina Rauf had 12 points.

Alvernia 73, Juniata 63: At Huntingdon, Jordan Karmonick scored a career-high 21 points to lead the Golden Wolves (4-5) past the Eagles (4-5) in a non-conference game.

Taliyah Malone had 10 points and seven rebounds for Alvernia, which led 38-21 at halftime.

Men

Slippery Rock 85, Kutztown 73: At Slippery Rock, Reading High grad Wesley Butler had 23 points, eight rebounds and five assists for the Golden Bears (1-2, 4-5) in their PSAC loss to the Rockets (3-0, 8-2).

Akeem Taylor Jr. had 18 points and six rebounds for Kutztown, and Michael Smith III and Kyree Generett each had 12 points. Frankie Hughes scored 27 points for Slippery Rock.
