Sports memorabilia auction includes a lewd handwritten note from Yankees great Mickey Mantle

One of Mickey Mantle’s favorite Yankee Stadium moments happened off the field — a sexual encounter with a fan under the right field bleachers.

The supposed incident was described by the Yankees great in a handwritten note that’s part of Lelands’ 2022 Fall Classic Auction, a baseball-themed collection that includes a 1973 questionnaire handed out to past and present players written and signed by Mantle.

“I got [a sex act] under the right field bleachers by the Yankee Bull Pen,” Mantle wrote in the questionnaire.

“It was about the third or fourth inning. I had a pulled groin and couldn’t [have sex] at the time.”

Mantle, who played for the Bronx Bombers from 1951 to 1968, had been asked to write about his most memorable experience at the famed Stadium on its 50th anniversary.

It’s unclear which season the encounter occurred — if it even did. Mantle was a notorious practical joker who probably figured it would be hilarious to relate an X-rated story about his playing days..

He remembered the fan as a “very nice girl” on the form, then signed it with his name followed by “The All-American Boy.”.

As of Tuesday evening, the leading bid for the unique piece of memorabilia was nearly $20,000. One auction representative said the note could fetch a six-figure haul.

The Hall of Famer is widely regarded as one of the Yankees’ most beloved players. In 1961, the nation watched as he and Roger Maris — known as the M&M Boys — competed in a home run race that ended with Maris hitting a then-record 61 and Mantle belting 54.

Billy Crystal directed a 2001 film about that season titled “61*” in which Mantle is played by actor Thomas Jane. Mantle’s penchant for hell-raising off the field was made famous in his former teammate Jim Bouton’s tell-all book, “Ball Four.”

In August, a mint condition 1952 Mantle trading card broke a sports memorabilia record when it sold for $12.6 million through Heritage Auctions.

The Lelands auction, which runs through Dec. 10, also includes a batting helmet worn by Mantle and rare baseball cards featuring the famed outfielder, who died in 1995.

Memorabilia tied to New York City baseball icons Babe Ruth, Derek Jeter, Phil Rizzuto and Sandy Koufax are also on the auction block, as is a nearly complete 1954 set of Topps baseball cards and a signed Jackie Robinson card.
