These are the people who bring you the Reading Eagle [Opinion]

It’s easy to get cynical in this business.

And the circumstances we all find ourselves in do little to tamp down that skepticism.

We’re all so caught up in the daily treadmill that seems to speed up each day, testing our ability to keep pace.

I’m talking about the people who make up the Reading Eagle newsroom — remotely or otherwise.

They work long hours.

They change their work schedules on short notice — sometimes on an hour’s notice.

They have converted their kitchens or spare rooms into remote newsrooms.

They work nights, weekends and holidays.

They are subjected to criticism, sometimes just, often unwarranted.

You couldn’t fault them for questioning why they keep at it.

But they do.

Because it is who they are.

They know nothing else and really wouldn’t be happy doing anything else.

The pace at which this business moves means we don’t slow down often enough, catch our breaths and appreciate one another.

That’s even tougher to do because we’ve been working in this remote world for more than 17 months and personal interaction is often limited to an online meeting or a phone call to resolve a crisis.

So I thought with Labor Day approaching it would be a good time for me to take this space to acknowledge the tremendously talented and dedicated people who bring you the Eagle in print and online every day:
