Weekend events roundup: Dog show, lots of music and start of holiday events

The National Dog Show takes place Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 8 to 5 at the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center in Oaks, Montgomery County.

The show, which will be televised on NBC on Thanksgiving Day, is hosted by the Kennel Club of Philadelphia. In addition to watching the competition and judging, there will be top agility dogs, therapy dogs to hug and many vendors.

Santander venues

Country stars Dustin Lynch and Scotty McCreery perform Friday at 7 in the Santander Arena, Reading. Lynch has nine number-one hits, four top-five albums and more than 4.4 billion global streams. McCreery gained lasting fame in 2011 as the first country artist and the youngest male artist of any genre to debut his first album at the top of the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart.

Andrew Constantine conducts the Reading Symphony Orchestra Saturday at 7:30 at the Santander Performing Arts Center, Reading. The performance includes Mozart’s Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, Elgar’s Cello Concerto with guest soloist Amy Ward Butler and Brahms’ Symphony No. 2.

“Twilight in Concert” comes to the performing arts center on Tuesday at 7:30. If features a screening of the movie “Twilight” accompanied by a 12-piece ensemble of rock and orchestral musicians.

Ensemble Arts Philadelphia presents the following performances:

Composer Joe Hisaishi, renowned for his work on Studio Ghibli animated films, conducts the Philadelphia Orchestra today and Friday at Marian Anderson Hall in the Kimmel Center. The orchestra will perform the Symphonic Suite from “Castle in the Sky” and the Symphonic Variation “Merry-Go-Round,” based on the waltz from “Howl’s Moving Castle.”

The Boz Scaggs Rhythm Review comes to Marian Anderson Hall Saturday at 8 p.m. Scaggs is a singer, songwriter and guitarist whose career stretches back to the 1960s.

Singer-songwriter Natalie Merchant, best known for her work with 10,000 Maniacs, performs Monday and Tuesday at 8 p.m. at the Perelman Theater.
