Wilson School District offers job seekers chance to test drive school buses

School districts across the country are continuing to face challenges finding people to drive students to and from school.

An employee shortage that has thinned the pool of all sorts of people wanting to work in schools — from teachers to aides to substitutes — has left many school districts and transportation companies struggling to find enough manpower to fill bus driver openings.

To address the problem, the Wilson School District is holding a special event Wednesday evening.

The district will host a “Test Drive Your Future” job fair at the district’s transportation center at 2900 Windmill Road, Spring Township, from 5 to 7 p.m.

With the aim of attracting top talent to join the district’s team, the district is offering aspiring bus drivers a hands-on experience. Instead of merely discussing the role, attendees will have the opportunity to get behind the wheel of a bus to gain a real feel for the position’s responsibilities.
