Boston Celtics waive Reading High star Lonnie Walker IV

Former Reading High star Lonnie Walker IV has been waived by the Boston Celtics according to reports released on Saturday.

Walker, 25, averaged 7.3 points in 16.4 minutes of playing time with the Celtics this preseason.

In a 139-89 win against the Philadelphia 76ers, he had nine points, four rebounds, seven assists, two steals, and a block in 25 minutes.

He averaged 9.7 points a game and shot 38% on three-pointers in 58 games for the Brooklyn Nets last season.

In 2017, Walker led Reading High to its first state basketball championship with a 64-60 win over Pine-Richland. He had 22 points, eight rebounds, four steals, and three assists in the game.

He was the Pennsylvania Basketball Player of the Year his senior year and a McDonald’s High School All-American.

Walker then played one year at the University of Miami before the San Antonio Spurs picked him in the first round of the 2018 NBA Draft with the 18th pick.

He played for the Spurs from 2018-2022 and then with the Los Angeles Lakers for one season before going to Brooklyn last year.
