Moss Receives KU’s 2024 Wiesenberger Award for Excellence in Teaching

Dr. Lauren Moss, professor of Counselor Education and Student Affairs, received Kutztown University’s 2024 Arthur and Isabel Wiesenberger Award for Excellence in Teaching. The award is presented annually to a faculty member who has demonstrated superlative teaching skills and service to the university.

Moss is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), certified school counselor, and special education teacher. She has extensive professional experience working with children who have diverse needs in a variety of settings and school systems. Having professional experience as a special education teacher, school counselor, and professor, Moss’ specialties include high-incidence disabilities, such as anxiety, depression, learning disabilities, and attention challenges. She has extensive experience with special education, 504 planning, and RTI/MTSS protocol.

Moss utilizes a strengths-based approach to empower young people. She encourages collaboration when working with families, peers, educators, and other stakeholders.

She has served at Kutztown University since 2014, teaching courses such as Fundamentals of Counseling; Educational and Psychological Tests and Measures; Counseling Ethics and Professional Identity; Career Counseling Issues Across the Lifespan; Reach Methods in Counseling; Practicum in School Counseling; Group Process Seminar; and Foundations of Play Therapy.

Moss earned her Ph.D. in counseling and student personnel services from the University of Georgia, her Master of Science in post-secondary education from Troy University of Alabama, and her Bachelor of Science from education with minors in educational psychology and dance from Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
