Reading School District to continue requiring masks in buildings and at indoor sporting events

The mask requirement will remain in place in the Reading School District.

The school board voted unanimously Wednesday night to update its health and safety plan and continue universal masking in its schools and at indoor sporting events.

The board was presented the updated plan last week at its committee of the whole meeting and there were not many changes. The new requirements will remain in effect until at least Jan. 31.

The district will allow indoor sporting events at full capacity, but attendees must wear a mask.

School board member Mark Detterline asked what would happen if someone refused to wear a mask.

Security will be at the events to enforce mask wearing, said Dr. Jennifer Murray, interim superintendent.

“No mask, no entry,” she said.

The updated policy remained relatively unchanged from the policy the board adopted at the beginning of the school year.

The updated plan allows building administrators and staff to request field trips within the district and for college visits, and building administrators may plan indoor parent engagement events that follow social distancing and masking rules.
