Lonnie Walker IV placed in NBA’s health and safety protocols by the San Antonio Spurs

Reading High grad Lonnie Walker IV, a guard for the San Antonio Spurs, has entered the NBA’s health and safety protocols, the team announced Saturday.

Walker, who scored 11 points in 21 minutes in a loss to Memphis Friday, will miss at least Saturday’s game at Detroit.

It has not been reported whether Walker, who is in his fourth NBA season, tested positive for COVID-19. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich had said in September all Spurs players were fully vaccinated.

A vaccinated player is placed in the protocols after testing positive for COVID-19 or after receiving an inconclusive COVID-19 test result.

Under the NBA’s revised protocols, reported Friday by ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, players who test positive can clear isolation after five days under certain conditions.

Walker, 23, is averaging 11.2 points, 2.8 rebounds and 2.4 assists this season.

The Spurs next play Tuesday at Toronto, then Wednesday at Boston. San Antonio visits Philadelphia to face the Sixers Jan. 7.
