Boyertown native and mine hunter serves with U.S. Navy half a world away

A Boyertown native and 2014 Daniel Boone High School graduate is serving in Japan in the U.S. Navy aboard one of the forward-deployed mine countermeasures ship, USS Pioneer. Petty Officer 2nd Class Harlan Swavely is a quartermaster aboard the Avenger-class mine countermeasures ship, operating out of Sasebo, Japan.

'Me and My Gal' roller skating party at Pheasantland

Girl Scouts had a fun afternoon out on Sunday, May 6, at Pheasantland. The Boyertown Service Unit of the Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania held a Me and My Gal roller skating party. There were 76 people who attended the event. It was all smiles for the Girl Scouts as they spent valuable time with a special woman in their life – mom, grandmom, aunt, etc.

Girl's Night raises funds for cystic fibrosis

Friends Lily Leighton and Ally Dede organized an event called “Girl’s Night” at Visions Dance Studio, 116 Pear Street, Boyertown. The event was hosted on May 4 in order to raise money for The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. The event consisted of manicures, pedicures, facials, makeovers, a photo booth, and dancing.

Retired history teacher gives history program on Great Philadelphia Wagon Road May 17

The Great Philadelphia Wagon Road will be the subject of an illustrated program presented by Ed Johnson, retired history teacher and President of the Goschenhoppen Historians, at the Historians’ May 17 meeting.

Many colonial-era roads began as Indian trails. The Warriors’ Path was an early trail that was originally worn down by eastern bison.

Ribbon cutting celebration at MJ's Legacy

A ribbon cutting celebration was held on May 3 for MJ’s Legacy in downtown Boyertown. MJ’s Legacy is a friendly, local shop featuring over 22 vendors specializing in handmade crafts, antiques, collectibles, and home decor. MJ’s Legacy is open Wednesday through Saturday 10 am to 6 pm and Sunday 11 am to 5 pm.

Young Jedis enjoy Star Wars games and fun at First Reformed Church

First Reformed UCC in Hamburg hosted May the Fourth Be With You family night on May 4.

The auditorium was full of Star Wars fans and young Jedis. Members and friends of the church came from their galaxies far, far away to join in the May the Fourth Be With You celebration. They enjoyed Star Wars snacks and beverages: Yoda Soda, Luke Skywater, Hans Rolos, Thermal Detonators (cheese balls), Ewok Treats (Teddy Grahams), and Galactic City Treats (various treats loved throughout the galaxy).

Kutztown School Jazz Bands perform at Kutztown Park May 23

The Kutztown High School and Middle School Jazz Bands will perform concerts in the Kutztown Park Bandshell on May 23 as part of the “2018 Borough of Kutztown Concert Series in the Park”. They will perform from 7 to 9 p.m. on stage and delight the audiences with the sounds of our young adults in the Kutztown High School and Middle School Instrumental Music programs.
